Piyasena sworn in to replace Geetha in Parliament

Piyasena Gamage was sworn in as a United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MP from the Galle District in Parliament a short while ago. He replaces the seat left vacant by the removal of Geetha Kumarasinghe.

Ms Kumarasinghe's seat was left vacant after the Supreme Court on November 1, ruled that she was disqualified from holding her post as a Galle District MP as she held duel citizenship

The Court ruled that according to Article 91/1/1/13, a person holding dual citizenship, at the time of nomination and taking oaths could not function as a Member of Parliament.

Piyasena Gamage received the seventh highest number of preferential votes on the UPFA Galle District list.
