Out of Virat Kohli-led Team India, Yuvraj Singh chases BCCI over Rs.3 crore IPL dues

While Yuvraj Singh, is sweating it out in the gym to make a comeback to Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team, it is now learnt that he is fighting another battle with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

India’s 2011 World Cup-winning hero, who has not played for India since the West Indies series in July after reportedly failing the Yo-Yo test, is chasing the Indian cricket board for last year and a half over his Indian Premier League dues.

Even Yuvraj’s mother, Shabnam Singh, has contacted BCCI officials on her son’s behalf regarding the dues. The amount is estimated to be Rs. 3 crore.

Yuvraj was injured while representing India during the ICC World Twenty20 in 2016 and hence, could not feature in the first seven matches for his IPL side Sunrisers Hyderabad that season. Ashish Nehra, Yuvraj’s Team India colleague and SRH teammate, meanwhile has reportedly received his dues from the Indian cricket board.

According to BCCI rules, if a contracted player misses out on IPL matches due to an injury sustained while representing India, the board compensates the player for the loss of income. While Yuvraj approached BCCI immediately after that, the board is yet to pay him.

It is also reported that Yuvraj might now approach the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators. The COA is currently looking after the functioning of the Indian cricket board.

"Yuvraj has written several letters to the BCCI officials and even his mother has been making the calls on his behalf. His Sunrisers teammate Ashish Nehra, who missed five games, has received his dues from the BCCI but surprisingly, Yuvraj's case is in the limbo," a BCCI official was quoted as saying by Mumbai Mirror.

BCCI official said that the Yuvraj issue could be that of “miscommunication”.

"Maybe his insurance papers were not in order," concluded the BCCI official.
